Streptococcal Tonsillitis

Vomit and a temperature over 102 for more than 72 hours equalled a trip to the ER for Jace tonight.

Of course we waited until Friday evening around 7:00pm to determine that Jace really needed to see a Dr.  You would think we could decide this around 4:00pm when the Doctors were still in their offices.

So off to the ER Jace and Ryan went after Ryan slathered his arms and hands in EMLA. EMLA is a numbing cream for--"just in case little Robin needed to give the Dr. a blood sample."  I happily volunteered to stay home with Grace.

And the diagnosis: strep throat.  That would explain the reeking breath Jace has had for the last 3 days even after Ryan continually brushed his teeth like any good dentist would do.  He had no complaint of a sore throat, but apparently those tonsils of his were VERY swollen and oozing gunk. Luckily he saw no needles!  I was worried about that.

It is 10:00pm and Jace just got home with antibiotics, ice cream, and a smile--which we will have too until we get the bill!

  1. i'm actually pretty ashamed of myself that i didn't figure it out from the symptoms. a high fever, no cough, occasional vomiting...so classic strep. shame on miss jen. what kind of germ-a-phobe am i anyway?!!?
to be honest, i am so glad it's strep because at least that means that 24 hrs of antibiotics will make him a new man! poor jace!!!

  2. How sweet to talk with Christopher Robin at the ER last night! I am with Miss Jen and am also grateful that it is something that can be zapped with antibiotic. Even though he was so sick, he managed to make Grammy feel so much better. Hugs to all you sweethearts!
