Well, I promised I would get pictures of Ryan's man project posted on Friday, but Saturday will have to suffice. Better late then never!
Last Friday night, the four of us loaded up and trekked 25 miles to the city of Cedar Rapids. We came home with a 36" diameter steel ring and 39 retaining wall blocks.
Once the HEAVY blocks were unloaded out of the van, the men--and Gracie--put on their goggles and went to work. They chiseled off the lip on each block. --Well, they started, but I ended up doing the last 30 or so.
Saturday morning came and we went to work outside. We spent quite a bit of time deciding exactly where to put the silver ring.
Once we had that figured out, Christopher Robin brought in his dump truck to make sure it was placed perfectly.
then hauled it off for us to the back of the lot!! We were thrilled to have our own personal dump truck driver.
Then he went to work hauling the stones out of the garage, up the hill, and over to the construction site. Those stones are HEAVY!
But look at him go to work in the humid, heavy, heat!
Even the goose-neck trailer truck driver got in on this BIG job!
Gracie was very helpful too as you can see. She mostly kept taking her clothes off and doing acrobats for us on the stones Ryan placed!
After the project was done, the pruning started.
Everyone wanted a turn climbing the ladder and cutting the branches. Except for me- I didn't want a turn!
The Dr.--who was on call that day-got his project done in 5 hours-even with being interrupted with work stuff! That included hauling the tree branches to the dump. He's the man!
And wah-laa-- we have a beautiful fire pit!
Pretty cool huh? We plan to dutch oven cook in it this fall! Can't wait!!
That night we christened it by roasting hot dogs and pineapple brats --which I thought would be awful, but they were so delicious!!
Of course we had s'mores --
which Ryan was quite proud of --he took this picture to show you all.
We made Christopher Robin try them, and he gave them a
thumbs down! He hated them!
But we all love our fire pit! Thanks to Dr. AWESOME.
So now when you come visit us in the fall, expect some good dutch oven cookin'!
How FUN!!! Looks like you guys will be making some great memories with the addition of your fire pit! Love to all!
ReplyDeletehaha, the naked rue is my favorite!!! :)
ReplyDeleteWOW! Just had a deja vu experience. Not only does Ryan look like his Grandpa Clair did, but my dad's first order of business after we bought our home in Mission Viejo, CA, was to build a fire pit that looks almost identical to Ryan's man project here. My dad was 36 at the time (I was 15) compared to Ryan's 33 ... my dad's design so similar to the Rye Pie's. Isn't that cool?
ReplyDeleteSo fun! I think I need to take out on of our square foot gardens and add a fire pit! What a great idea. You guys are such creative parents. Love you and miss you dearly!
