A birthday, a racoon, and the end

Last week Rocky the raccoon visited our house, the Dr. turned 34-he is getting old-AND his month of trauma chiefing ENDED!!

His month of being the trauma chief wasn't totally bad-especially the beginning of the month,- but by this last week he had put in several late nights-(you know--until 1:30AM then had to be back at 6:30AM for rounds and a full day of patients) and a long weekend so we were all dragging--but now our turn is OVER until June!

This is Rocky the Raccoon, straight from Dollywood in Tennessee. He came to visit us last Saturday.  Rocky has real fur and a spring inside that makes him "come alive" when you hold him just right!

Words cannot adequately tell you how much  Robin and Rue fell in love with this "pet."  Ryan had the ability to make it look very real so they thought it was alive the entire day we had it.   (And still do!)
It was love at first sight!

Jace was a little worried about the fact it was missing an eye and  had no legs, but Ryan told him that it was attacked by an owl that pecked out his eye.  Of course Jace's eyes were wide as saucers after he heard that wild tale. But he also seemed glad that Rocky was rescued.

Every time Jace took a turn holding Rocky, Gracie would freak out--she had a hard time sharing.  So they spent the day taking turns.  I really thought the new would wear off, but it never did, so I spent the afternoon setting the kitchen timer for 5 MINUTES!

My favorite part was when they gave it a nap and read it books.

Which you can tell Rocky totally loved.  It put him right to sleep, and he slept soundly until we returned him home to the Erickson's.

And lastly but not least, this is the only picture of the Dr.'s birthday that I will post.  The kids decorated his cake and sang him a very exuberant Happy Birthday.  But since Gracie was naked for all the pictures, this is the only one that made the editing cut.

So Happy Birthday to the Dr.

  1. Happy Birthday, Ryan. I am so happy that Rocky was so loved. He gets more love at your house than at ours. Anytime you want a "play date" with Rocky, you just let me know!

  2. So glad to hear that Trauma is over (for now)!!! I love your Blog Bronwynn and it is a treat to see each new post! Hope you are all safe and are getting over the torrent of sickness that seems to have come your way. :( I love Rocky! We had a similar pet (as I am sure Ryan has told you) that we got from a trip to Vegas and had a blast making people think we had a live animal. Love you Bronwynn!xoxox

  4. Ah, B4, I am so glad your blog is back. Helps me pretend that all you cuties aren't really 2,000 miles away! These pics are priceless as is your ever darling and original commentary. Typical Ryan narrative with the owl pecking out the eyeballs of Rocky -- oh, he is too much like his mother! Trauma Chief-hood sounds like it was definitely Traumatic. Glad it is over for awhile. Hugs, loves, and squashes!!

  6. Picture #8 totally melts my heart. What sweet souls you are raising Bronwynn! I was laughing all the way through - I could totally picture Ryan with that Rocky and telling of how the eye got pecked out and then Jace's reaction. Oh, how Ryan loves to spin a tale (and how good he is at it)! hahaha

Happy birthday Rye!! Hope you got our birthday message. I'll try calling again soon.
